Last month, Roxbury Community College marked its half-century milestone with a symposium that brought together big names in law enforcement, justice, and education to delve into the transformative power of learning. According to a recent announcement, the event titled "Learning, Innovating, Responding: The Power of Education in Building Thriving Communities," featured a range of discussions over two days, spotlighting the intersection of education and community vitality.
At one of the panels, "Restoring Community From the Inside Out: Partnerships, Pressure and Reform," Suffolk County's very own Sheriff and RCC Board Chair Steven W Tompkins played host. He was joined on stage by an eclectic mix of voices—the Boston Police Department Commissioner Michael Cox, peace advocate Clementina Chery of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, Armand Coleman, a mover and shaker from the Transformative Prison Project, and RCC’s Criminal Justice adjunct professor Theresa Wilson Coney. The panelists dissected how collaborations and reforms could rehabilitate communities from within, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department Massachusetts website.
