This morning, there was a highway robbery in Berkshire County. The Lanesborough Police Department is working to figure out what happened. A person who was trying to help what looked like a stranded driver near the Lanesborough/New Ashford town line had a scary experience as the sun came up on RT 7.
The unsuspecting Good Samaritan encountered an unexpected and frightening turn of events, the driver of the seemingly disabled vehicle wasn't in distress but was, in fact, bait for a calculated trap; another man, sneaking up behind the victim, pressed what was believed to be a gun to his head. The perpetrators, after stripping the victim of valuables, made their getaway in a beater of a pickup, heading south into the early morning haze with the law now hot on their trail.
Police are now seeking any leads that might help track down the suspects and their rusted, ladder-racked truck bearing Vermont plates, as described by the rattled victim. In an official statement released on the department's Facebook page, anyone with information or possible camera footage of the area is urged to step forward and contact the Lanesborough Police Department at 413-443-4107.
