San Antonio was hit by a rash of fires late Sunday night as a blaze destroyed an unoccupied nursing home on the northeast side, while another fire, suspected to be caused by an electrical issue, struck a west side H-E-B grocery store.

According to KENS 5, the nursing home fire was reported around 10:18 p.m in the 100 block of Cloudhaven Drive, firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames engulfing the structure. The rapid advance of the fire through the back rooms, attic, and roof led officials, to declare the building a total loss, although no injuries were reported as the nursing home was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Similarly, the H-E-B store located in the 10700 block of Potranco Road was the site of another fire, starting approximately 9:40 p.m, before the nursing home incident. Firefighters were quick to respond, locating the fire on the store's external back wall and successfully quelling the flames. "Nobody was injured," in the potentially electrical-related fire, as noted by KENS 5.

Arson investigators are expected to review both fire sites, the H-E-B's incident as a precaution to confirm the electrical issue as the cause, and the nursing home to uncover the origins of its destructive blaze. These consecutive fires have raised concerns regarding fire safety and prevention, within the community, especially as San Antonio has seen commercial establishments becoming the grounds for perilous conflagrations in recent memory.
