The planned funeral for Savanah Soto, an 18-year-old who was killed with her unborn child in a brutal shooting, is being put on hold due to a family emergency. This sad announcement was made public by the grieving mother of Savanah, Gloria Cordova. The Soto family has yet to declare a new date for the services, leaving friends and community members in a waiting state to pay their final respects.
The original funeral service, scheduled to honor both Savanah and her unborn son Fabian, was to take place at Sunset Funeral Home with a follow-up mass at St. John's Church. However, the unforeseen postponement leaves these plans tentatively suspended, as reported by FOX San Antonio. The family intends to quickly reschedule, potentially offering closure to a community shaken by this tragic event.
Amidst the sorrow surrounding the delays, the investigation into the deaths of Soto, her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, and their child continues to unravel. Earlier this week, Myrta Romanos, age 47, was arrested on charges including evidence tampering and concealing a human corpse, as stated by FOX San Antonio. It is believed that Romanos, who is the stepmother of Christopher Preciado, another suspect charged with the killings, played a role in the aftermath of the crime.
According to the police, the couple was involved in a drug transaction that went fatally awry, leading to their murders—both found with gunshot wounds in a San Antonio apartment complex parking lot. The case, gaining local and national attention, prompts one to question the depths of trauma inflicted not only on families but upon neighborhoods and cities, stark reminders of the cost of violence. The family conveyed to KSAT that memorial services will now be held Monday evening with a burial following the next day.
Community members have been eager to offer their support to the Soto family, waiting to come together in mourning the loss of Savanah and Fabian. Many hope that the rescheduled funeral services will provide a space to not only to grieve but to begin to heal from this tragedy that has indelibly imprinted itself on their lives.
