Tragedy struck a San Antonio family when 40-year-old Ramon "Ray" Saucedo was fatally hit by a distracted driver while he was changing a flat tire. The incident occurred earlier this month, off 410 near Alamo Downs Parkway, as reported by both KENS 5 and MSN. Saucedo was assisting his niece with her tire when a driver, allegedly looking down to retrieve something from the floor of his car, collided with him. In the aftermath, the community has come to rally strongly in support of Saucedo's family, holding fundraisers and contributing to a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.
"It is just hard," Laura Saucedo, Ray's sister, told MSN. "It was my baby brother. He died as a hero. My eyes, he was a hero." Laura shared with KENS 5 that people were coming to show their support, a testament to the kind individuals that exist out there. She remembered Ray as a warm presence, always ready to lend a hand, to, he was a great uncle, a great brother, and a great son," Laura said. The tragic event has left a clear message: the absolute need to maintain attention while driving to avoid irrevocable consequences.
The Saucedo family has expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community for the outpour of support. A BBQ fundraiser has gathered thousands of dollars, and a local archbishop has offered a burial plot. “There's so many kind people out there, and yesterday was just proof of it,” Laura Saucedo expressed in an interview with KENS 5. The family aims to honor Ray's legacy of selflessness and generosity.
Reflecting on the horror which took her brother from her, Laura Saucedo urges drivers to be vigilant. "Pay attention," she said according to MSN. "Whatever you had, whatever fell can wait. Somebody's life is way more important than something spilling." For those who wish to contribute to the family's GoFundMe, a link has been provided for direct donations. The Saucedo family is determined to remember Ray for the sacrifice he made, ensuring that his heroism continues to resonate within their hearts and the broader community.
