A dangerous confrontation unfolded when a man attempted to run over police officers during a traffic stop yesterday night. The incident occurred on the Northwest Side along Grovehill Drive near Benrus Drive, shortly after 8 p.m., according to officials.

Officers were responding to a call from a woman claiming that Alejandro Garza, 41, was taking her vehicle without permission. Found in the woman's car by the police, Garza refused to exit the vehicle. Escaping their grasp, he sped away, prompting a chase. During a subsequent attempt to detain him, officers, while clinging to the side of the vehicle, were nearly mowed down as Garza hit the accelerator, FOX San Antonio reported.

Garza's desperate bid for freedom escalated when he crashed into a patrol car while attempting to strike other officers. The chaos ended with police successfully extracting Garza from the vehicle and taking him into custody. Remarkably, no injuries were sustained in the harrowing episode.

Now behind bars, Garza faces multiple charges: evading arrest with a vehicle, resisting arrest, and three counts of aggravated assault on a public servant. According to court records, his bail is set at a hefty $400,000. Officers involved in the harrowing incident, having held onto the car during Garza's escape attempt, expressed relief that no one was hurt.
