Tragedy struck yesterday morning at Oak Creek Apartments in San Antonio, Texas, where a man was arrested after his wife was discovered shot to death. FOX San Antonio reports that at approximately 7 a.m., police encountered 51-year-old Carlos Portillo, screaming and soaked in blood on the scene.
Upon questioning, Portillo, drenched from the waist up, confessed that the blood covering him was that of his spouse. "Officers asked who's blood was on him and Portillo said it was his wife's blood and that she was shot dead inside their apartment," the police report detailed, according to FOX San Antonio. Responding officers discovered his wife's body and she was pronounced dead at the location.
Simultaneously, police were alert to the disturbance on the sidewalk outside the apartments. "He was walking up and down the sidewalk here just acting very bizarrely," recounted Sgt. Steven Bratina, as per The Blaze. The bizarre behavior prompted a bystander to call the authorities, fearing he might wander into oncoming traffic. The investigation swiftly linked the distressed man to the grim finding within the apartment complex.
Police also found a firearm in close proximity to the crime scene, and it is being investigated as the potential murder weapon pending forensic results. Portillo was taken into custody without further incident and has been charged with murder. A neighbor, Mayra Orta, told The Blaze about hearing a loud noise earlier that day. “I did hear a sound that was like a gunshot but then I said maybe it was a firework. I never peeked out but he was using the F-word and just screaming and me, I thought it’s probably somebody else, they’re drunk or something," Orta said.
The community, rocked by the violence, is now on edge, with neighbors like Orta vowing to be more vigilant. “I feel sorry for the person that died," she lamented. “But with this happening that it’s so close to my place it’s like okay, gonna be a little more aware, even though I am now."
