The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 15-year-old Ethan Martinez as the victim who was shot and killed near a Southwest Side apartment complex over the weekend.
Authorities found Martinez with a gunshot wound around 9 p.m. Saturday on the 6000 block of Ray Ellison Boulevard, according to the Express News. Despite being rapidly transported to a local hospital, he later died from his injuries. A handgun was discovered near the teen, but it remains unclear whether it was his or belonged to the perpetrator. Witnesses recalled hearing gunshots and seeing vehicles speeding off, leaving investigators piecing together the scant clues left in the wake of the gunfire.
Evidence collected at the scene, including shell casings, spent rounds, and bullet fragments, suggests the shooting occurred close to the exit gate of the Freedom Hills Ranch apartment complex. The FOX San Antonio reported no suspects have been identified, and the motive for the shooting remains a mystery. Police are appealing to the public for any information that might bring clarity to the events that led to Martinez's untimely death.
