San Antonio has been left reeling from two separate shooting incidents as violence punctuated the weekend, leading to an extensive police investigation in the community. In one incident, a man was hospitalized after sustaining a gunshot wound, and in another, a San Antonio police officer was wounded during an attempted DWI stop, with the suspect currently on the run.
The unidentified 28-year-old male victim was found by San Antonio Police near the 400 block of Gabriel, as reported by FOX San Antonio. The incident occurred yesterday night, and though police were quick to the scene, the wounded man's reluctance to cooperate has stymied progress in identifying the shooter.
Subsequently, an officer sustained injuries in a separate event that unfolded around 1 a.m, Saturday. While conducting a DWI traffic stop on Marbach Road, gunfire erupted from a passenger in the vehicle being inspected. The shootout resulted in one officer being injured and hospitalized, undergoing surgery and currently in stable condition after six years of service on the force. This information comes from the vigilant reporting of News 4 San Antonio.
The assailant and a second individual, described as the driver of the vehicle, evaded arrest post-encounter; the former assumed control of the wheel and fled the scene, only for the vehicle to be later found abandoned. The man who was shot in the first incident remains uncooperative, further complicating the series of events that continue to challenge the San Antonio Police Department.
As the investigation into both shootings continues, police are appealing to the community for assistance. People with information regarding these violent episodes are encouraged to contact the San Antonio Police Department at 210-224-7867.
