San Antonio Zoo Merges Wildlife with Pokémon Go at First Community Day of the YearSource: Google Street View

Get ready to add a digital twist to your next zoo visit! San Antonio Zoo hosted the year's first Pokémon Community Day earlier today, offering visitors a blend of real-life wildlife marvels and virtual creature catching from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests can immerse themselves in the Pokémon Go experience amid the roars and squawks of the zoo's animal inhabitants.

"It’s really cool to see all the families that come out to the zoo to experience community days. You see the little ones with mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, big families walking around the zoo experiencing everything we have for that day all while playing the game," Mason Rodriguez, Director of Marketing at San Antonio Zoo, told KENS 5.

Featuring a total of 18 Pokéstops, the San Antonio Zoo will become a hotspot for gamers and animal lovers alike, with lures set to be dropped between 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. The event is the digital Porygon, known for its tracing ability and promised to appear in generous numbers within the zoo grounds, especially around the lion habitat, as per the information from Allevents.in.

But there's more than just virtual catching to be done. "We created our own custom pokémon cards with our own zoo animals on there. So it’s really cool to see guests come every month last year and collect all the cards and we’re really excited to roll out the cards for this year," Rodriguez said in an interview with KENS 5. The first 200 players who manage to catch 10 Porygon will be rewarded with exclusive zoo collectible cards, with a chance to snag a rare rainbow variant, this offer starts post 2 p.m. and availability is while supplies last, the limit is one per player.

Access to this extra-special Community Day is part of the standard admission fare, but members can join the fun for free. Whether you're in it for the Porygon or to peruse the habitats, San Antonio Zoo's blend of critters and creatures ensures a day worth capturing—both in Pokéballs and memories.
