Two San Francisco residents have been convicted in a sadistic murder that shook the city, with one facing life without parole and the other 25 years to life. Gerald Rowe, 52, and Angel Anderson, 41, were found guilty of the brutal first-degree murder of George Randall-Saldivar in 2019. The case, heralded by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office as a pursuit of justice for the horrific crime, concluded with the jury's decision after hearing evidence of torture and poisoning.
According to the District Attorney's press release, the duo faced charges of murder with special circumstances of torture and poison. In a case argued by Assistant District Attorney Charly Weissenbach, the jury heard how the victim was subjected to hours of torment before his death, involving being hung with a noose and injected with a lethal dose of fentanyl. The cruelty on exhibit drew a strong reaction from the community, pleading Rowe and Anderson guilty and dispensing the severe penalties.
Details of the grisly crime emerged during the trial, revealing the extent of the calculated and monstrous acts. After sexually assaulting and torturing Randall-Saldivar, Rowe left to procure fentanyl. Coming back, he and Anderson injected their victim with the potent narcotic inside his apartment located on the 1200 block of Market Street. Within moments, he began convulsing and, while still alive, was stuffed into a suitcase. The pair then discarded the body near Rincon Park, which was later found floating by a Pier 39, "like garbage," in the chilling words of Weissenbach.
Angel Anderson, having admitted her role in the murder, agreed to a plea deal, which led to her conviction for first-degree murder. Caught in disguises and rolling the suitcase towards its final destination, their actions painted a portrait of calculated cruelty. This account, corroborated by a tweet from Henry K. Lee, stated, "Gerald Rowe & Angel Anderson had sex with George Randall-Saldivar, then killed him by hanging him w/noose & injecting him with possibly fentanyl before stuffing his body in a suitcase...," according to Henry K. Lee.
While Rowe awaits his sentence set for March 18, justice for the victim and his family takes a bittersweet form. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins expressed an "overwhelming sense of relief" on behalf of the victim’s family. Both Rowe and Anderson will remain in custody until their sentencing.
