Chaos erupted in a quiet San Francisco neighborhood as a fire rapidly escalated to a 2-alarm blaze, forcing the evacuation of residents and battling firefighters on the scene. The San Francisco Fire Department responded promptly to a reported structure fire on January 5 at 109 Lowell Street, dealing with aggressive flames threatening homes and lives. According to their report, the blaze began in a two-story, detached single-family residence and rapidly spread to a neighboring building.
Fire teams arrived at the scene at 4:22 PM, minutes after the initial distress call. They immediately got to work to try and contain the inferno, which had taken over both floors of the initial dwelling and was beginning to catch on the adjacent 3-story multifamily structure at 691 Morse Street. In a statement obtained by the San Francisco Fire Department, it was disclosed that the quick escalation prompted a 2-alarm response, bringing 74 firefighters and Paramedic staff to combat the fire.
The damage was primarily confined to the original Lowell Street property, with the exterior of Morse Street suffering some impact. Impressively, the SFFD managed to avert any injuries. However, four people were displaced due to the fire, which was contained by 5:00 PM. As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Residents watched as firefighters worked swiftly to stretch out handlines and extinguish the fire in both homes. "The damage from this fire was limited to 109 Lowell Street and exterior damage to 691 Morse Street with no injuries and 4 displaced due in part to the firefighters that quickly stretched handlines to extinguish fire on both floors while protecting the adjoining buildings (exposures)," the SFFD conveyed.
