A Grindr date turned violent when a San Francisco man allegedly pulled a gun on his date after a consensual sexual encounter in a car, resulting in an attempted carjacking and the victim being shot, according to Bay Area News Group and Mercury News reports.

The suspect, a 20-year-old San Francisco resident whose name remains undisclosed, was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking and assault with a semiautomatic firearm, officials said. After the incident, which initially left the victim with gunshot wounds to his upper leg and buttocks before he checked himself into a San Leandro hospital, he recounted the harrowing encounter to police leading to the suspect's arrest. The bond for the accused is $155,000, with the suspect's next court date scheduled for January 17, SFist reported.

Post-sex violence erupted after the unidentified suspect met with the victim through the Grindr dating application. Within mere minutes of their physical intimacy, the man brandished a gun and attempted to take the victim's vehicle; a struggle ensued, during which the victim was shot, according to police statements obtained by Mercury News.

The suspect was tracked down using his Grindr profile picture and cellphone. Authorities took him into custody at Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland on December 19, when the suspect was there for a hearing on a separate, unrelated gun possession case, reinforcing the suspect's troubled history with firearms, he remains incarcerated pending his court appearance.
