San Francisco streets were the backdrop for a grisly scene last month when a couple was stabbed brutally, leaving a man dead and a woman battling for her life. On December 28, at the break of dawn, San Francisco Police officers scuttled to the intersection of Mission and Washburn Streets amid reports of a vicious stabbing, as disclosed in a San Francisco Police Department press release. A 45-year-old male victim, along with a 38-year-old female companion, was attended by officers at the scene with apparent stab wounds.
Rendering aid, officers worked diligently before the arrival of paramedics, who rushed both victims to the hospital. Tragically, the male succumbed to his injuries. The female victim's fight for survival continues.
The ensuing investigation by SFPD Homicide Detail led to the identification of Dennis Duree, a 39-year-old San Francisco local, as the prime suspect. With probable cause established, a Ramey warrant was issued for Duree - a notice that was dutifully broadcasted across the department to keep vigilant eyes peeled for the suspect.
Fast-forward to January 11, a routine patrol embarked by Southern Station officers resulted in Duree's arrest, spotted standing on a street corner at around 7:40 a.m., according to the SFPD’s statement. Charged with homicide, attempted homicide, and assault with a deadly weapon, Duree was promptly booked into San Francisco County Jail #1.
The arrest may offer a modicum of closure, but SFPD insists the investigation is still alive and ongoing. They are appealing to the community for additional information to shed more light on the dark corners of this case.
