The adult male victim, a resident of San José, succumbed to his injuries on January 15 and has only been identified posthumously, as law enforcement officials have yet to release his name.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old David Robert Cardoza also a resident of San José, was initially caught after fleeing the scene of the shooting. Swift action by patrol officers resulted in a foot chase ensnaring Cardoza shortly after the crime occurred, with an abandoned firearm discovered close by.
The incident unfolded late at night on the 100 block of N. 14th Street, where the victim was found stricken by gunfire, prompting a desperate rush to hospital care. Despite the immediate efforts to save him, profound injury from at least one gunshot wound proved too much to overcome.
