The carjacking, which took place at a stopped vehicle, involved Basler and two others who reportedly flashed a handgun to intimidate their victims before making off with the stolen car – the getaway, however, was brief, as their stolen vehicle ran out of gas leading to their swift arrest by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. The District Attorney's announcement came following Basler's recent court appearance where he entered his plea signaling a progression in the case that shocked local residents when it first occurred.
In a related event, Basler was also implicated in another carjacking in Redwood City, this time near Fifth Avenue and Middlefield Road as reported by the San Mateo Daily Journal. The young suspect found himself once again leading authorities on a high-speed chase, this time after a robbery at a Walgreens store in Millbrae that concluded in San Francisco.
During the subsequent arrest, a juvenile was also taken into custody, with both facing serious charges linked to the heinous act of carjacking; Basler continues to contend with the hand of justice clamping down on a life that has veered into tumultuous illegality and those following the case are left to ponder the consequences of such young lives entangled in the throes of criminal escapades. Both suspects are now awaiting further legal proceedings, their freedom hanging in the balance as the wheels of justice turn.
