A 33-year-old woman was taken down by Seattle’s finest after allegedly unloading a pair of bullets during a heated altercation with another woman, police reported. The skirmish, which occurred in a residence located at the 1100 block of 34th Avenue in the East Precinct, sparked on Thursday at around 10:30 p.m., according to the Seattle Police Department's blotter. The suspect and 22-year-old victim apparently knew each other and their dispute crescendoed to gunfire, although no one was injured.
Despite the fracas, it took nearly an hour for the terrified victim to reach out and to promptly call 911 from the West Precinct. Officers, after speaking with her, managed to quickly develop probable cause to charge the suspect with assault. Their investigative acumen led them to the suspect’s hideout—an apartment at the 600 block of East Howell Street, where the alleged shooter decided to hole up, refusing to even leave the apartment.
Enter the Hostage Negotiation Team and SWAT, who staged an hours-long standoff that ultimately resulted in the suspect’s surrender. "Following a warrant obtained by West Precinct officers and several hours of negotiation, the suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody." detailed the SPD Blotter.
Upon arrest, the suspect's cache yielded no firearm but did turn up the victim's cell phone, now lodged as evidence for the assault charge. The suspect is also facing several felony warrants and currently resides at King County Jail. Police continue to methodically investigate, ensuring that all stones are turned and justice can, in the end, be unfailingly served.
