The Southern Valley Alliance (SVA), a long-standing defender in the battle against domestic violence, is now operating out of a new office situated at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Holmes Street in Shakopee. The opening marks a turning point in the organization's efforts to ramp up aid and bring vital resources to domestic violence victims.
The recently established location at 103 Third Avenue offers enhanced accessibility through public transport and ride-shares and is conveniently situated across the street from governmental support services. The Community Action Partnership Agency, a valuable resource for individuals facing challenges, is located just a few blocks away.
More than just a point on the map, this new site prides itself in its cozy, friendly spaces designed for families. Kiddos have room to romp while grown-ups converse in confidentiality with advocates. And let's not overlook the bolstered security features, additional offices, and meeting rooms of various sizes tailored for group sessions.
SVA's Executive Director Christy Larson has high hopes that the more central location will not only pull in more walk-ins but also kindle a fire in locals to roll up their sleeves and pitch in as hands-on volunteers. “Because we are now more accessible, we are anticipating an increase in walk-in traffic,” Larson stated. Spreading the word on the array of services, SVA stands at the ready to deploy new programs to address the nuanced needs piercing our communities.
Folding the new facility into reality wouldn’t have been a slam dunk without donors opening their wallets. The not-quite-crossed financial finish line benefits from a match-your-donation deal courtesy of a grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. Every penny pinched is currently on a 2-for-1 special. Those itching to chip in can holler at Christy Larson at 952-873-4214 or email [email protected].
