A Springfield man is facing serious time after a federal grand jury slapped him with a drug indictment. Christian Caballero, 30, could spend up to two decades behind bars for possession with intent to peddle both fentanyl and cocaine.
The indictment, unsealed in Springfield, stems from an event on July 31, 2023, when Caballero was allegedly caught with the narcotics purportedly ready to distribute. Caballero now stands to potentially receive a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, plus four years on the leash with supervised release, and could also be hit with a hefty fine up to $1 million.
Calling the charges a serious affair, Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Chicopee Police Chief Patrick J. Major jointly announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the Springfield Branch Office will be the one to try to pin the crime firmly on Caballero.
