In Springfield, Massachusetts, a seemingly routine traffic violation escalated into a more severe incident after local police apprehended a man for illegally possessing a loaded semi-automatic firearm. Officials reported that officers on patrol spotted a vehicle with a defective tail light on Tuesday evening around 7:15 p.m. on Hall of Fame Avenue.
Upon further investigation, the cops discovered that the car, driven by 24-year-old Derrick Gomez, lacked both insurance and a valid registration, prompting them to perform a traffic stop. It was during the search preceding the tow of Gomez's vehicle that officers uncovered a loaded firearm stashed in a fanny pack, as detailed in an announcement by the Springfield Police Department.
Consequently, Gomez faced multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, uninsured motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, and a motor vehicle lights violation.
