In a coordinated raid, multiple law enforcement agencies including the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, the Massachusetts State Police VFAS, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, have arrested a suspect on serious drug trafficking charges and seized an AR-Style pistol. The bust occurred on Tuesday morning inside a residence located on Seymour Avenue in Springfield, Mass.
With a warrant out of Franklin Superior Court to his name, 24-year-old Josiah Cheeseboro became the subject of an early search that day at around 7:35 a.m. Wanted for cocaine and heroin/fentanyl trafficking, as well as conspiracy to violate drug law, the task force members located Cheeseboro hiding in the basement after a loaded AR-Style pistol was found in a bedroom closet during the home search.
A subsequent search warrant allowed detectives to seize the illegal firearm, which they found loaded with an ample supply of 22 rounds of ammunition. As reported by Springfield Police Department, the seizure also included loose ammunition, further implicating Cheeseboro in illegal activities beyond the drug charges.
According to the charges laid out by Springfield authorities, Cheeseboro now faces several firearms charges including the possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card. Additionally, he has been charged with possessing a large-capacity magazine and the improper storage of said magazine. The report by Springfield Police detailed the charges, painting an image of a man deeply embedded in illegal operations, both in the realm of narcotics and firearms.
