St. David's Round Rock Medical Center has hit a new milestone with the finish line of a $53.1 million expansion effort. After four decades of service, the healthcare institution completed its latest growth spurt on Tuesday with a media invite to tour the fancy new digs.
The recent upgrade is just a slice of a nearly $1 billion pile of dough invested into Central Texas' healthcare framework, the hospital spilled the beans in 2022. The major renovation and growth spurt was tagged as the final act in a three-part saga, according to CBS Austin. It's been a long road since it first opened as a modest 75-bed, 55,000-square-foot facility. As if turning back the clock, the hospital celebrated its 40th anniversary last September, a party that was, no doubt, four decades in the making.
The expansion script featured the addition of a shiny, new vertical tower and a 34-bed Intermediate Care Unit perched on the fifth floor, tasked with watching over patients needing an eagle eye and skilled nursing care for more complex medical drills. Those beds, ready to cradle patients by month's end, will bump the hospital's bed count to a snug 209.
In the meantime, St. David's Round Rock isn't resting on its laurels. Celebrating the past with an eye on the future, the 40th-anniversary shindig served as a reminder of just how far the hospital has ballooned — from a 75-bed facility to 484,000 square feet boasting 175 beds, as Community Impact highlighted. The new setup includes two extra floors, a slew of modern patient care units, four operating rooms, and a handful of support spaces to sweeten the pot.
With a facelift this extensive, it's clear St. David's Round Rock Medical Center is pumped to continue its reign as a staple of Central Texas healthcare, cementing its commitment to serve an ever-growing community that's just as lively as the medical professionals who call this hospital home.
