Tragedy struck St. Paul once again this week as one individual succumbed to injuries sustained in a house fire, marking the fifth fatal blaze in the city since the start of 2024.
The fire department responded to a call from the 1600 block of Juliet Avenue on January 23 where firefighters found and rescued one person from the flames, the victim was then promptly transported to the hospital, according to Fox 9 reports.
Despite the firefighting crews’ swift action in controlling the fire, which officials state originated in the kitchen, the rescue efforts proved ultimately to be a grim prelude to bereavement as the individual pulled from the building passed away from their injuries—a revelation that was made public by the fire department.
The recent casualty comes on the heels of a heart-wrenching January in St. Paul; four children tragically lost their lives earlier in the month due to a separate house fire in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood, as per CBS News Minnesota.
