After a protracted investigation spanning years, justice seems to be inching closer for the family of a San Diego man killed in a 2021 shooting. San Diego Police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the homicide of 59-year-old Rahman Thomas. On a quiet October night over two years ago, the sound of gunfire shattered the calm in the Mountain View neighborhood, marking the beginning of a mystery that detectives have only now appeared to solve.
In the early hours of October 19, 2021, a 911 call alerted police to a shooting at the intersection of 37th Street and Ocean View Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found Thomas with a fatal gunshot wound, though their lifesaving efforts at first aid and CPR proved in vain as Thomas was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Since then, police have been threading together the pieces of that tragic night, leading up to the recent apprehension of 32-year-old Rashad Ware, now facing murder charges for the alleged crime, according to a statement from the San Diego Police Department.
On January 27, almost three years after the homicide, Ware was located and arrested at around 9:55 p.m. in the 300 block of 17th Street, the San Diego Police's communication center confirmed. Ware was booked into jail on murder charges, finally offering a potential closure to a case that had left a community and a family grappling for answers in the wake of senseless violence.
The San Diego Police Department continues its quest for the full truth behind Thomas' untimely death, urging anyone with information to step forward and reach out to the Homicide Unit or to contact Crime Stoppers. The community's role could still prove pivotal in this ongoing narrative of loss and the pursuit of justice.
