A 14-year-old boy was shot dead in a West Seattle teen center's pool bathroom, in a shattering incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Seattle Police Department, responding to an emergency call around 1:26 p.m. to the Southwest Teen Life Center located at 2800 block of SW Thistle St., found the young victim fatally injured and despite immediate efforts by officers and staff to provide life-saving measures, the teenage boy succumbed to his wounds, reported KOMO News.
Seattle PD Chief Adrian Diaz informed reporters that the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, and there were no preceding reports of an altercation, he also emphasized their current belief that the shooting doesn't pose an additional threat to the community.
Diaz acknowledged that this tragic incident, which is being investigated by the department's homicide detectives, marks the city's first potential homicide for the year although the city's homicide rate for the year remains technically at zero, "We don't believe there is any impact to the community," Diaz said as tensions in the community rise and parents grapple with the reality of gun violence touching the lives of their children, Seattle PD via Twitter stated that the area was promptly secured for investigation following the event.
