Chaos erupted in the tranquil Lake Minnetonka neighborhood where a series of car theft incidents involving teenagers culminated in a dramatic police chase and multiple crashes on Monday night. According to FOX9, the ordeal began around 8:30 p.m. with a report of a stolen BMW SUV on Togo Road in Orono and coincided with reports of thefts from vehicles in the area.
Orono Police, after responding to the thefts, engaged in a pursuit with what they believed was the stolen SUV when it was spotted on Shoreline Drive. Having accelerated to escape, the suspects ended up crashing. "The vehicle was determined not to be the car reported stolen on Togo Road, but rather a car reported stolen out of Blaine," CBS News Minnesota reported. Officers apprehended two teenagers, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, associated with the crash.
The Wayzata Police Department, separately, located what turned out to be the actual BMW stolen from Orono and attempted to curb its flight with spike strips. The driver, however, kept on towards Highway 394 even after hitting the device. Their flight was short-lived as the car collided with a curb divider, a light pole on Central Avenue, and a police squad car.
After the vehicle came to a stop, two young suspects, aged 14 and 13, attempted to flee on foot but were quickly taken into custody by the police. Both stolen cars were found to contain items previously reported missing from the Togo Road vehicles. "Police believe the incidents were related, and say this investigation is ongoing," FOX9 conveyed from the authorities. The intertwined nature of the events points to a web of youthful indiscretions woven tightly with criminal endeavor.
