During his keynote address at the 7th India-U.S. Forum in New Delhi, Texas Governor Greg Abbott extolled the virtues of the Texas-India economic partnership. "Texas and India are two places—and two people—who both share an independent streak and a desire to make our mark on the world," the governor stated, according to the official transcript of his speech posted on the Governor's website. With a focus on common values such as family, faith, compassion, and hard work, Abbott emphasized the importance of collaboration for future prosperity.

Highlighting the impressive scale of trade and investment ongoing between Texas and India, Governor Abbott pointed to the statistics in the last decade. Indian companies have made a cumulative investment of over $1.4 billion through 59 projects in Texas, creating over 10,300 jobs in the state. Further adding to the economic narrative, he noted that cities across Texas, are reveling in the benefits from these capital investments by Indian firms. Over 542,000 Indian Americans residing in Texas only serve to underscore the deep cultural and economic ties binding the two entities.

Earlier discussions with India's External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar revealed a mutual intent to bolster this economic relationship further. Governor Abbott boasted of Texas' energy sector, underlining an all-inclusive energy strategy that is essential to maintain its standing as a global energy hub. "We must ensure that the next generation of leaders in Texas and India will be the innovators who solve the world’s foremost crises," Abbott told the gathering.

The Governor's delegation included notable figures like First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Secretary of State Jane Nelson, Executive Director of the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office Adriana Cruz, Vice Chair of the Texas Economic Development Corporation Arun Agarwal, and President & CEO Aaron Demerson. Governor Abbott's mission, as this New Delhi forum marked its conclusion, was backed by the Texas Economic Development Corporation, a body that pours its resources into painting Texas as a top business destination. In 2022, Texas’ trade with India totaled a substantial $20.4 billion, further solidifying India’s position, as the state’s 11th-largest trade partner, with Texas exports to the country reaching $13.3 billion, which accounts for 28 percent of all U.S. exports to India.
