Tragedy struck in Gwinnett County when three people were killed in an apparent double murder-suicide at an apartment complex. The violent incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at The Views at Jacks Creek, situated on the 2300 block of Country Walk in unincorporated Snellville. Police found two men and two women with gunshot wounds, with one woman and both men declared dead at the scene. A second woman was transported to the hospital with injuries, but is expected to recover, Atlanta News First reported.
Gwinnett County Police Department identified the deceased as Corey Jones, 52, his wife Dana Farmer, 56, and the suspected gunman, Frank Wilburn Jr., 27. The surviving woman is Rosella Jones, 29, who was in a relationship with Wilburn and amid divorce proceedings, according to investigators. Inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but unharmed, were a 2-month-old girl and a 46-year-old woman, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Police suspect the shooting was spurred by a domestic dispute. "We believe that this is an isolated, domestic-related incident," Sgt. Michele Pihera with Gwinnett County Police stated, as obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. Rosella Jones and Wilburn had a court hearing scheduled for later that day, potentially providing some insight into the possible motive.
The incident followed an officer-involved shooting at the same location just two weeks prior, where law enforcement officials shot an armed suspect who survived. These consecutive violent events, have heightened concerns among the community. "There was a court hearing scheduled for later today between the former couple, I don't know the specifics on what that court hearing is, but we believe that this is an isolated, domestic related incident," as shared with FOX 5 Atlanta.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is continuing its investigation of the harrowing incident. They urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to detectives at (770) 513-5300 or to contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (404) 577-8477.
