Kevin Gist and Joseph Ghafouri Wehrly, the pizza aficionados behind the pandemic-born sensation TNT Pizza, are expanding the crispy crust empire to Chula Vista and later North Park. TNT, short for Thick'n Thin, originated from humble beginnings in a home kitchen and has since taken San Diego by storm, establishing a solid reputation with an East Village store that opened in October 2021. Now, Topping off their success with innovation, the duo is set to convert the ex-Attitude Brewing Company location into a new TNT Pizza hotspot.

Their latest venture, a 2,500 square-foot slice of heaven located downtown on 3rd Avenue, is ripe for the unveiling later this year. As reported by Eater San Diego, the expansion will feature a similar throwback pizza parlor feel to the flagship location, complete with wood paneling and stained-glass light fixtures. "Offering quality pizza in a suburb makes us feel we are being true to our roots," Wehrly told Eater, signaling TNT's commitment to creating a neighborhood vibe that's a little bit retro and a lot delicious.

Not just content with bringing classic and innovative pies to the pizza-hungry public, their expanding menu will also cater to more esoteric tastes—think deep-fried appetizers and potentially sandwiches in the future. But the real talk of the town is TNT's celebrated pizza range, satisfying both Detroit-style devotees and thin-crust connoisseurs. SanDiegoVille highlighted the Large Marge, a cheese pizza decked out with tomatoes, roasted garlic, and basil, and unique offerings such as the Pickle Pie, which comes loaded with house-made pickles and ranch.

Looking beyond Chula Vista, TNT Pizza is already plotting its next move—a North Park location within a collaborative outdoor space alongside local culinary trendsetters Cow by Bear's Jill Solomon and Jessica O’Shea coming. According to an interview by Eater, Gist and Wehrly will focus on introducing their take on woodfired pizza in this fresh and vibrant setting.
