
A trio of suspects, one adult and two juveniles, was arrested in Pembroke Pines after a stolen BMW crashed into a guardrail and led to a massive manhunt, police said. The incident, which unfolded in the Southern Florida city yesterday morning, involved a dark-colored vehicle that was later determined stolen, according to WSVN.
The Pembroke Pines Police Department reported the crash happened around 9:15 a.m. near Southwest 196th Avenue and Pembroke Road. After the collision, the suspects fled on foot, leading officers from both Pembroke Pines and Miramar to coordinate a thorough search. Aerial footage captured by Chopper 6 showed the sedan wrecked against a roadway barrier, one adult male later identified as 26-year-old Calvin Bennett, along with two minors was apprehended in connection with the crash, as NBC Miami reported.
Witnesses at the scene informed law enforcement, leading to a search that expanded into the nearby city of Miramar. Pembroke Pines Police deployed a SWAT vehicle and K-9 units in their effort to locate the suspects. The intensive manhunt caused disruptions in the local area, with police advising residents to steer clear from the ongoing search operation.
Officials confirmed that, after more than an hour of searching, the three suspects involved in the hit-and-run and alleged car theft were arrested. They are facing several charges including grand theft, and their identities have been partly withheld due to the involvement of juveniles, according to the Pembroke Pines Police. Residents in the Harbour Lakes community witnessed the police activity, which climaxed when the handcuffed individuals were escorted from a wooded area by law enforcement.
