Tragedy struck early Sunday morning on a Parker County road when two Fort Worth men were killed in a head-on collision, and a child was left injured. The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the fatal incident near Ranch Road around 1:30 a.m., as detailed by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The deceased, 39-year-old Jonathan Gideon and 33-year-old Gustavo Herrera, were reportedly both from Fort Worth. Herrera's vehicle, which was struck while carrying a 10-year-old passenger, came to a stop in the southbound lane of US 377. A preliminary inquiry found Gideon driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado northbound in the southbound lane, leading to the fatal crash with Herrera's GMC Sierra.
Authorities have yet to release details on what led Gideon to be on the wrong side of the road. The 10-year-old child, who was in Herrera's car, survived but was rushed to Cook Children’s Hospital via LifeCare for treatment, the extent of the injuries was not made public.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, marking a sad start to the week for the Fort Worth community. "DPS said in its preliminary investigation that the Silverado was traveling northbound in the southbound lane when it collided with the Sierra".
