The incident escalated on Dowe and Pacific in Union City, where a shootout occurred during an Alameda County Sheriff's Office eviction enforcement action. According to KTVU reporter Henry K. Lee, a deputy was shot in the arm, and the scene has attracted significant law enforcement resources, including Oakland Police helicopters and drones overhead. At the same time, BART Police Department officers rushed to the scene.
The wounded officer was involved in an operation that comes just a day after a similar event unfolded during an eviction attempt by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office on Outlook in East Oakland. During this, a shot was also fired, signifying a troubling pattern of violence in eviction-related proceedings. Lee informed the public about the injured officer's condition via Twitter, saying, "This comes day after a shot was fired during @ACSOSheriffs eviction try on Outlook in East Oakland."
The authorities have yet to release the names of any suspects involved or details on the eviction that triggered the shooting.
