Japanese fashion hits Texas as Uniqlo, the minimalistic apparel giant, is set to construct its first North Texas location at The Parks at Arlington. Plans uncloaked by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation revealed that the popular retailer is preparing for construction to begin this year on a 12,490-square-foot store, according to the Dallas News.
Set to inhabit the second floor of the Arlington Mall, the store is slated for completion by year's end, with a construction budget of $1.9 million. The spot was previously home to Abercrombie & Fitch, another apparel retailer that recently shuttered its doors at the location. Uniqlo is looking to expand its presence in Texas, as plans for another, larger store surfaced for Houston’s Memorial City Mall, FOX 4 News reports.
Synonymous with affordable fashion, Uniqlo's entrance into the North Texas market underscores the growing appetite for 'fast fashion' in the U.S., with the brand poised to compete alongside other low-cost clothing chains like Forever21 and H&M. The retailer, hailing from Yamaguchi, Japan, operates 53 stores across the nation, predominantly perched on the East and West Coasts. This move marks a strategic expansion into a region previously untouched by Uniqlo's physical retail presence.
