Commuters in San Diego brace for a hefty dose of traffic disruption as California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced closures affecting major bridges in the city. Starting Friday, a significant portion of Interstate 8 is set to undergo bridge repairs that could snarl weekend traffic and cause travel delays. The closures mark a concerted effort by the agency to maintain and update critical infrastructure.
According to an X post from Caltrans San Diego, the westbound I-8 over El Cajon Blvd will see three of its four lanes shut down from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for bridge work. While daytime hours, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., will keep three lanes open for relief, night-time work from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. guarantees at least one lane will remain operational, ensuring that at no point will all WB lanes be closed.
