In a move that will shape the skyline of West Palm Beach, the City Commission has unanimously greenlighted the construction of twin office and retail towers on the former site of a popular movie theater. The project at The Square, located at 550 South Rosemary Avenue, promises to inject new life into the downtown area with a combined 744,492 square feet of office space and 63,890 square feet of retail.
According to a report by WPTV, the development will also feature ground-level open spaces and a significant parking structure, bridging the gap between convenience and urban design. The Related Cos. of New York, a seasoned developer that first opened the complex in 2000, aims to have the towers operational by September 2026. Standing 21 and 23 stories tall, the towers will rise above the site of former mainstays such as Brio Tuscan Grille, AMC West Palm Beach 12, and the Palm Beach Improv, which closed and were demolished last year.
With an address firmly set within the CityPlace Commercial Planned Development, the upcoming towers — the shorter being named the west tower, and the taller dubbed the east tower, which will also house a parking garage — are bounded by key city thoroughfares. "The towers are bound by Rosemary Avenue, Gardenia Street, Hibiscus Street and the Florida East Coast Railway tracks," detailed a report from Gabriel Taylor News.
The undertaking mandates 1,355 parking spaces, mostly indoors, to accommodate what is expected to be an increased demand from both occupants and visitors. After a comprehensive review, the West Palm Beach Planning Board extended their support for the project on December 19, ushering in the changes that will tower above the historic roads, transforming the space that was once brimming with entertainment venues into a hub for business and commerce.
