Tension gripped a Brooklyn Park neighborhood after a woman shot a known male acquaintance before the wounded man fled the scene, sparking a police chase. The incident unfolded around 5:15 p.m. on January 27, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department. As officers converged on the 7900 block of Kyle Ave following the 911 call, they located the shooting victim trying to escape in a vehicle from the scene.
Despite suffering serious injuries, the man exhibited defiance by fleeing a traffic stop and driving to another location at the 8100 block of Xenia Ct. It was there that the officers managed to negotiate with the wounded man who had been reported armed. Eventually, cooperation ensued, and the officers were able to safely render medical aid, a statement from the department said.
Meanwhile, the woman involved in the initial altercation had stayed at the scene and was later taken to the Brooklyn Park Police Department for questioning by detectives. Her level of cooperation stood in contrast to the chaotic aftermath involving the injured man.
In a dramatic turn, the injured man, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, wound up under arrest. He was wanted on outstanding felony warrants. In a twist to the already convoluted events, he now also faces charges of DUI, Flee Police in a Motor Vehicle, and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, according to police officials. Details concerning the events leading up to the shooting and the reasons for the firearm discharge remain under investigation, with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department Patrol Division and Crime Scene Investigators.
