Two alleged car thieves were nabbed by a sharp-eyed Worcester police officer when they were spotted cruising in a stolen Toyota Camry last week. According to a police press release, the stolen vehicle was first reported on Cambridge St. on January 26, prompting authorities to be on the lookout for the missing car. A day later, an officer chanced upon the Camry on Woodland St. and proceeded to make a strategic stop on Oberlin St.
While waiting for backup, the officer found the car carrying two occupants, one of whom falsely identified himself as Thomas Young behind the wheel. The actual driver was later identified as thirty-four-year-old David Morales of Hooper St., charged with Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Sitting beside him, the passenger Yesenia Davis, thirty-one-years-old of Vernon St., was also arrested. She faced a charge for Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority and dealing with an outstanding arrest warrant.
The Worcester Police acted swiftly, intercepting the stolen car barely 24 hours after the carjacking was reported. The arrests of Morales and Davis were an assertive reminder of the department's commitment to curtail auto theft within the city limits. The department’s diligence rectified an ordeal that started with the simple theft of a motor vehicle and ended with two arrests, underscoring their determination in crime prevention and neighborhood safety.
The identities and charges of the accused were confirmed in the recent Worcester Police Department's announcement. Residents of the city are being reminded by law enforcement to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, perhaps thwarting crime before it even begins, just as the officers demonstrated with the brisk apprehension of the two suspects on that thankfully uneventful January evening.
