Cracking down on the drug trade in Worcester's King Street area, local police have charged five individuals with various drug-related offenses. The arrests were the result of the Worcester Police Department Vice Squad's reinforcement of drug laws in the neighborhood of Main and King St on the morning of January 2, according to a press release put forth by the department.
Distributing narcotics appears to be a common thread in some of these cases. Martineau Lucien, 31, from Hammond St, has been charged with distribution of a Class B Substance. Similarly, Laura Ticehurst, 37, of Oread St, faces the same charge. Devonte James, a 23-year-old from North Grafton, has been slapped with the dual charges of possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute and possession of a Class B substance with intent to manufacture, signaling an ongoing battle against the scourge of drugs in the area.
Further to the charges for drug offenses, two individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants. Kayla Ortiz, a 32-year-old from Leicester, was picked up on warrant arrest, and Vannek Chea, 38, of Queen St was also apprehended on a warrant arrest. These arrests come as local authorities continue to underline the importance of order and legality in Worcester's streets.
The vice squad's actions reflect an enduring effort to clean up streets notoriously plied by the drug trade. The aftermath of these arrests will unfold in the courtrooms, as each of the accused is due for a legal reckoning. Worcester Police Department's press release provides no further details on the circumstances of their arrests nor any statements from those charged at the time.
