
A routine job took a perilous turn at the Frankfort Grainery after a worker toppled from a roof while tinkering with a cell antenna, local authorities reported Thursday. The incident, which occurred around the afternoon lull at 2:30 p.m., left the man with a grievously fractured arm, according to the WGN-TV.
In what could have been a tragedy, first responders engaged in a race against time and injury, Frankfort police declared the worker had sustained minor injuries considering the 15-foot tumble from the tower he faced, his fall while working on the antenna led to a compendium of emergency services streaming to the Grainery located off North White and Kansas Street, their purpose singular - to rescue the downed man, stated the Chicago Tribune.
The rescue operation, kicked off shortly after the accident took place, saw the Frankfort Fire Department, cushioned by neighboring agencies, labor to ascend the structure where the man was stranded, "He was on top of the roof, had about a 15-foot fall with a severe arm injury," Frankfort Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Paul Kinsella told WGN-TV, his team worked not only to reach but also to stabilize and comfort the injured with warmth from blankets and hot packs.
Witnesses at the scene commended the rescue efforts, Su Wayda, a local resident, observed how Frankfort's emergency teams, cooperating with counterparts from Mokena and other vicinities, swiftly mobilized a fleet of emergency vehicles, converging on the grainery with a unity of purpose. "It was great to see Frankfort and how they worked together with Mokena and all the emergency vehicles out here," Wayda expressed in the aftermath of the operation, underlining the communal spirit that knit the responders together in their relentless pursuit to extricate the worker from his precarious perch.
The undertakings of the emergency crews culminated in the worker's descent from the grainery’s heights, after which he received immediate medical attention and was whisked away by Frankfort Fire Protection District, to be treated for what were ultimately categorized as minor injuries, despite the initial concern following his harsh landing.
