A 12-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident after being struck by a car while trying to cross North Shepherd Drive in northwest Houston, authorities report.
The Houston Police Department revealed to KTRK that the incident occurred at approximately 8:41 p.m. on Saturday, when the child, estimated to be between 10 and 15 years old, was heading to a store across the street, he navigated the northbound lanes successfully but upon entering the southbound section, he was hit by a vehicle whose driver had the green light; the boy was outside a crosswalk making it difficult for drivers to anticipate his movement.
Tragically, first responders declared the boy dead at the scene, as the driver involved remained there and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation, informed by police.
In the emotional aftermath of the accident, the family of the deceased sought answers at the nearby store, in a desire to piece together the events that led to their loss, the boy's identity remains unreleased as officials revealed to KIAH because he was not carrying any form of identification at the time - and while the investigation is still active, Houston police said that charges have not been filed against the driver given they possessed both the green light and the right of way.
