An early morning inferno has left 16 people without a home in North Miami, as flames engulfed an apartment building on NE 128 Street. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, receiving a call prior to 6:30 a.m., quickly deployed 14 units to combat the raging fire that sent a towering pillar of smoke billowing into the sky, NBC Miami reported.
In a display of swift action, firefighters arrived on the scene to find the single-story building swamped in smoke. They tackled the fire head on, using hose lines to douse the flames, and making their way onto the roof to prevent further spread, the crew, cut through the chaos with axes and chainsaws. In the wake of the destruction, every resident of the five units was left picking up the pieces, as the American Red Cross stepped in to provide the necessities for those affected by the disaster.
All hands were on deck and it appeared that the fire crews' strategy paid off, as they successfully extinguished the fire without any reported injuries. Following the conflict with fire, it became evident that the building sustained significant damage, rendering it uninhabitable and leaving many to rely on the goodwill of the Red Cross for shelter and aid, according to details from CBS News Miami.
