Violence erupted in Little Italy this past Saturday, leaving a 19-year-old man dead following an argument. The Chicago Police Department states that the fatal incident occurred on the 1900 block of West Hastings Street shortly after 6:30 p.m., as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
The victim, identified as Damian Gomez by the Cook County Medical Examiner, was allegedly engaged in a verbal dispute with another man who proceeded to pull out a gun and shoot him. Gomez sustained injuries to his chest and shoulder and was quickly transported to Stroger Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries, according to information obtained by ABC7 Chicago.
As of now, the Chicago Police has yet to arrest any suspects in connection with the shooting. The motive behind the altercation and whether Gomez and the shooter were acquainted remains unclear.
