Damian Gomez, 19, was pronounced dead after an assailant shot him during a confrontation in the 1900 block of West Hastings Street, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The incident, which police say occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, left Gomez with fatal injuries to his chest and shoulder.
According to authorities, the dispute escalated rapidly, shot rang out piercing the evening's calm; Gomez was rushed to Stroger Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life but succumbed to his wounds. As of now, it remains unclear whether Gomez and the shooter were acquaintances or strangers in a moment of deadly conflict, this detail was reported by ABC 7 Chicago. The shooter remains at large, and no arrests have been made in the case.
