The Lewisville Grand Theater will open its doors to musicians itching to drop their latest tunes on March 8 at 7 p.m. No matter if you're a rookie or a vet, the Acoustic Friday’s Songwriter Challenge is open to all ready to strum their hearts out. And it doesn't cost a dime to join in on the fun - listeners and songwriters alike, according to the City of Lewisville, Texas.
This quarter's challenge is themed "Horizon," and it's not just a word to throw around lightly here. Participants are tasked to churn out melodies that echo their personal looking-forward-to's - a fitting prompt as we tread into a new year. Whether you wield an acoustic axe (yes, amplified ones too) or prefer the stark beauty of an acapella performance, take the stage solo or with an acoustic compadre. Rules are scant but firm: pen a fresh song for the "Horizon" challenge and premiere it at the event.
To join in or just soak in the raw and uncut songwriting at Acoustic Fridays, beeline to the Grand at 100 N. Charles Street. Coming from I-35E? Exit 452 is your friend, then just track east on Main Street until Charles Street reveals itself. Park your ride for free along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall - it's just a hop, skip, and jump across Church Street from the center.
