Monday morning, in the town of Angleton reports of an active shooter spurred a massive police mobilization and a temporary lockdown of local schools. The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, responding to the situation, has since retracted the active shooter warning. Residents around Velasco Street witnessed a significant law enforcement presence and were advised to steer clear of the area while the investigation unfolded.

Despite the early buzz, the Sheriff's office confirmed that the situation had de-escalated, "There is no longer an active shooter (expect heavy police presence and please avoid the area)" as mentioned in a Facebook post of Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.

Highway 288B from Highway 35 to Dwyer remained shut down while officials worked the scene, as reported by KHOU.

The Angleton Independent School District took swift action as a precautionary measure, placing all of their campuses into "secure" mode, according to a statement. “Again, all schools went into ‘secure’ as a precautionary safety measure. Students and staff were safe. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s principal.” The District's prudence highlighted the readiness to shield its students at a moment's suspicion of danger.

Families seeking information and support found a haven at the Angleton Recreation Center, set up by the sheriff's office to assist in the aftermath. Though details regarding injuries were not immediately clear. Ensuring no stone was left unturned, the authorities kept the public informed, asking them to avoid the area as proclaimed by FOX 26 Houston
