
A string of robberies has left businesses on edge in Chicago's Deering neighborhood with a masked bandit on the loose. According to a business alert issued by the Chicago Police, multiple incidents occurred during the wee hours throughout January on the 2400 Block of South Archer Avenue.
The reported robber targeted citizens and businesses, approaching the front counter and demanding cash with desperate vigor, before fleeing in a red vehicle, now known to be a Dodge van, the suspect struck three times last month—the first incident occurring on January 19th at around 1:50 a.m., followed by another on January 26th at 12:30 a.m., and the most recent on January 28th at 4:40 a.m.
The culprit behind these crimes has been described as an African American male, approximately 5'09"-6'00" in height and weighing around 200 pounds between the ages of 30-39, he's been seen wearing a black ski mask, black or gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans during the robberies. Local authorities are calling for community vigilance, advising people to always be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activities immediately to the police.
Residents and business owners have been further advised to stay calm if confronted and try to remember any unique features of the assailant but to avoid pursuing them as it could pose a danger incidentally if the crime is caught on camera, the police have emphasized the importance of keeping the footage and providing a copy to investigators, and they stress the importance of dialing 9-1-1 should you witness such an incident and to attempt to stay on the scene if it's safe to do so.
The Chicago Police are committed to apprehending this individual and have asked for the public's cooperation in these efforts. The department implores witnesses or anyone with information on these crimes to come forward and help prevent future losses and ensure neighborhood safety.
