An alleged thief's cunning plot was foiled at a Walmart in Cypress, Texas, where he attempted to pull off a slick television swap. Deputy Ratcliff of Constable Mark Herman's Office apprehended the adult male suspect after a theft call at the Walmart located at 26200 block of the Northwest Freeway. In the incident, which took place recently, the suspect was found switching out an old television with a brand new one from the store shelves.
According to a Facebook post by Precinct 4, the man apparently brought in a used television and cunningly swapped it out for a new one, simulating a return or exchange, but instead walked out with the new set while leaving the old one behind like it was some kind of shell game. The suspect then coolly tried to leave the premises, presumably looking to enjoy the fruits of his audacious ruse undetected.
Walmart employees, however, were quick to notice the illicit exchange and promptly contacted law enforcement which led to the subsequent arrest. The details of the theft, including how the suspect managed to carry out such a bold move within the store, were not immediately clear but Deputy Ratcliff's response to the theft call showcases the vigilance of local law enforcement in protecting retailers from such deceitful attempts at theft.
