The American Swedish Institute (ASI) has upped the ante for family-friendly exhibits with its latest interactive gallery, a nature-centric space tailor-made for its younger attendees. Unveiled over a bustling weekend, the ASI now hosts a fresh addition to its array of public offerings: the Nature's Story Family Gallery Experience, an area teeming with Minnesota wilderness brought to vivid life.
In this gallery, visitors are whisked away to a realm where life-sized paintings of the state bird, moose, and bison abound. Paired with the tranquil sounds of a Minnesotan lake, the effect is immersive, as if one were stepping right into the heart of nature itself. The engaging venue, littered with reading nooks, puppets, puzzles, and more, was launched in partnership with fifth graders from Hope Academy, as reported by CBS Minnesota.
Emphasizing the importance of such partnerships, ASI's Exhibition Manager, Erin Stromgren, underlined the significance of community. "It's really at the heart of a lot of what we do here at ASI. Our mission is to be a gathering place for all people, and to meet around things you see here around art and different topics," she said, as per CBS Minnesota.
Adding to the eclectic mix, ASI also introduced two other exhibits: Artic Highways: Unbounded Indigenous People and Mygration, with both on display until May 26. The Family Gallery, on the other hand, has claimed a permanent spot within the ASI's walls. The reinvented Family Gallery, conceived in the collaboration with artist Stina Folkebrant, caters to a wide demographic, from 9 months to 99 years old, inviting all to immerse in playful discovery, according to ASI's official exhibition page.
