Get ready to break out the rain boots, Atlanta. The city is set to face a barrage of showers and thunderstorms starting today and rolling into the early part of the week. According to the National Weather Service, Atlantans should expect "showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 1 p.m.," with an 80 percent chance of precipitation and potential new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch today.

But that's just the beginning of a soggy saga. The wet conditions are expected to persist, keeping things damp throughout the night. "Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 am," forecasts the Weather Service. Also, patchy fog will creep in between 1 am and 3 am, making the evening commute potentially hazardous. The low will hover around a mild 59 degrees, while new rainfall could add up to an inch.

Don’t expect relief tomorrow. "Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 5 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5 pm," continues the forecast, not easing up on the water works with up to 2 inches of rain potentially adding to the deluge. Drivers should be wary of patchy fog that could significantly limit visibility from 10 am to 2 pm. Despite the storms, temperatures will remain unseasonably high, with the mercury reaching near 67 degrees.

Changing gears tomorrow night, there will still be a "60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m.," followed by a smaller chance of showers as the night progresses. The shift comes with gusty winds, as the Weather Service warns of west wind sweeping through at 15 to 20 mph and gusts clocking in as high as 35 mph, which might necessitate securing outdoor items prone to being blown away.

Finally, there's light at the end of the stormy tunnel with Tuesday set to bring "mostly sunny" skies, though it will be cooler with a high near 54 degrees and brisk northwest winds. The remainder of the week looks promising as well, paving the way for generally clear days and starry nights, bar a 40 to 50 percent chance of showers rolling back around on Friday night and Saturday.
