Five dogs owe their lives to the quick actions of Bexar County firefighters after a mobile home went up in flames late Sunday night in Elmendorf, officials say. The fire, which erupted on the 3800 block of Waterwood Pass, prompted a response from both Bexar County Emergency Services District firefighters and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at around 10:40 p.m., as reported by KENS 5.
Upon arrival, the fire had fully engulfed the home. However, the fire team successfully rescued five dogs from a neighboring kennel area, preventing harm to a nearby vehicle and motorhome that were also threatened by the blaze not yet reaching them, according to a My San Antonio report. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have started in a chicken coop. No homeowners were present when the flames broke out, and as of yet, no damage estimates have been reported.
Firefighters responded decisively to a crisis, saving lives and property. No injuries were reported in the blaze that not only threatened the mobile home but also the lives of the dogs and the residents' belongings. The canine survivors and residents now await answers about the cause of the fire on that calm Southside evening.
